No Jelly

Vintage candy bar ad by surrealist illustrator and graphic designer Roger Hane from 1972.

  1. I had forgotten all about Peter Paul -- now there's a name from the past! Mind you, looking at this ad, it seems like Roger Hane might have been taking a cue from Peter Max instead...

  2. Hane might have been first, would have to check. Or just both going with that 60s and70s style.

  3. I think they were pretty much contemporaries. I don't see a general similarity in their work -- just that this particular ad seems to be drawing on the then-ubiquitous style of Peter Max, which in turn drew heavily on art nouveau and Mucha and French graphic design. You're exactly right, tons of ads looked like that at the time. Still, who could resist that pun? I'm not made of stone.
