Where's my jump-belt?

Jump High, Jump Fast!

One of the first Science Fiction stories (albeit pro-authority) I ever read. Story has a great line for the subtext I was too young to get back in '65: "Jumping with a girl doesn't sound like much fun."

From Magnus, Robot Fighter
(Gold Key Comics, August 1965).

  1. Sweet, I'm a secret Magnus fan from way back.

I read it regularly back then, but haven't checked it out now to see if it still holds up at all.

  2. I'm not sure subtext is the word. Rampant Freudian imagery perhaps?

  3. Magnus actually holds up quite well, better than most other things from the Silver Age. Actually, sometimes it holds up uncomfortably well in terms of social commentary. Russ Manning was a visionary, no doubt about it.

  4. Maybe the word jumping is meant to be a code word for something else... Ice cream, perhaps?
