PS Magazine Dec 2005: Maximum Joe Kubert -palooza

It's December, and that brings us a new PS Magazine featuring the soldiery art of Joe Kubert from the US military publishing office!

If there is one thing the BOWs* in the military are good at during the month of December, it's taking lots of days off and it shows in this month's issue. They really phoned this one in.

Joe Kubert does his usual more-than-competent show, but none of the articles really grabbed me. The anthropomorphic tanks, guns and helicopters are pretty uninspired, though that is more from the content of the articles than Joe's illustrations.

Since it is the holiday month this issue presents the predictable play on Dickens' 'A Christmas Carol'. In the tale, the anal-retentive host of the series is visisted by 3 nagging ghosts of preventive maintenance. I guess something original for Joe to draw would have been out of the question? The only kinda-interesting article is about the new camo uniforms. **

Anyway, if you are like me and can't get enough Kubert check it out. It's free*** and the Sgt Rock: The Prohecy mini isn't!

* Back Office Weenies. As opposed to the soldiers in the field, who do the real work. These guys just sit in offices yet still get all the good equipment.
** Guess who gets issued the better, life-saving uniforms first? You guessed it...the BOWs.
*** Freedom has a price, you know. In this case, it's your tax monies going to Joe Kubert. Oh...and helping the motor pools keep a GI's stuff working.
