Happy Birthday Hayley Mills!

Today is April 18th and that means it is the birthday of none other than the star of stage, screens both big and small...Hayley Mills!

Hayley may mark this occasion only once a year but here at Lady, That's My Skull EVERY day is Hayley Mills Day!

I post the link to Hayley's first screen appearance a lot but that is so fans new to Hayley or the site can find it. Every time I post it a number of folks discover it anew. Even some die-hard Hayley fans have let me know they were surprised it existed as they usually go by her official biography when following her career.

So again here is Hayley Mills as an infant in an uncredited role in the 1947 film So Well Remembered.

Sit a spell and browse through everything Hayley Mills on Lady, That's My Skull! Don't miss the virtual tour of the sprawling San Diego-based Hayley Mills Celebratory Complex, America's #1 rated Hayley Mills-centric theme park!

Fresh off of the Australian television series Wild At Heart Hayley Mills is starring in the play Ladies In Lavender. The play is getting nice press and her fans are gushing over her performance and those of her colleagues. Here is a synopsis.

And here is Hayley in The Truth About Spring delivering one of my favorite movie quotes ever.

Happy Birthday, Miss Mills!

Happy Birthday, Son!

23 years old today?

Wow.

This kid is pretty lucky. Having a birthday so close to Christmas in most families means that the youngster often gets ripped off gift and party-wise. The holiday and the celebration are often combined. That sucks! But not only did we as parents make sure his birthday and Christmas were as equitable as if they were months apart, we also gave him two parties. One would be low-key in December because friends and families are burnt out. The other party would be a few months later and would be the big blow-out par-tay!. Not only would people be recovered emotionally from the holidays but financially as well, ensuring enough time had passed so my son didn't get re-gifted the crappy Christmas presents that nobody wanted.

Oh, like no one else would do or has done that, too. Liars.

If anyone wants to send presents then please make it in the form of cash or something that can be readily changed into cash.

Happy Birthday To A Girl Like You

As several people have reminded me today is the birthday of my favorite actress and unrequited chaste crush Hayley Mills. Trust me folks, I don't need reminding. My calendar is marked and the admin assistants at the Hayley Mills Celebratory Complex here in sunny San Diego has been taping photocopies announcing the event to the time clock and coffee machine for the last couple of weeks. So I dragged myself out of bed to post something and hey, the pain of sitting in a chair is worth it for Hayley. I have no regrets.

UPDATE! 2011 has been exciting year so far at the HMCC as we finally received some non-region DVD's of Wild At Heart and a copy of Sky West and Crooked. The Hayley-centric episodes of Wild At Heart have been playing nearly non-stop in the Hayleydome movie theater to standing-room-only crowds.

As a treat a special midnight screening of 1970s Take A Girl Like You was held and fans dressed up as their favorite characters from the movie and acted out scenes a la Rocky Horror. It was great fun though everyone booed Oliver Reed every time he appeared on screen.

take a girl like you

I totally get that. Oliver Reed pawing Hayley? Even though it was just movie magic FX we just had to keep telling ourselves "It's only a movie...It's only a movie..." until it was all over. Fortunately nurses were in attendance to provide aid to those who went into shock when Oliver tried to kiss Hayley WHICH NEVER HAPPENED.

Oliver aside here is the opening title sequence from Take A Girl Like You with Hayley Mills being adorable times infinity.

Be honest, is Hayley great or the greatest ever? That's right, she's both!

The big birthday bash was held in the main dining hall and as usual, a plate was left empty at the head of the table for Hayley in respect just in case she showed up. Not that we expected her to visit this year, we all know how busy she is being adorable (that is a full-time job). It is enough that the HMCC exists and has such enthusiastic international support from all the fans.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HAYLEY!

Newer every day

Today's my birthday so I'm taking it easy and hanging out with the family.

I'll tally up my loot and make a list. I always carefully analyze what I get so I can later destroy those who gave me stuff by bestowing them with amazing, impossible gifts on their birthday or holiday.

Mysta Mondays and the next chapter of early female empowerment in comic books will post sometime tonight after I take my nap and chase those kids off my lawn.

I'm this many

Today is my birthday.

Yeah, I'm old. Not that old, but I shouldn't be eating a lot of red meat anymore. I eat a lot more salad than I have been and man, vegetables are boring. I'd enjoy my meals a lot more if lettuce had a face and I was confident it screamed when it was slaughtered back at the farm. Look, you can call it harvesting if you want, my palate calls it slaughter. Don't spoil my illusion because it is the only way I can handle eating vegetables all the time without fantasizing about the nutritional benefits of the neighborhood pets.

So another year behind me. I'm an adult now and have been for some time, but there's a young guy inside me who refuses to go down without a fight. Until he gets winded, anyways.

My weaknesses used to be fast women, booze, crap tables, the beach and a high cliff to dive from into the ocean. Now it is stairs.

In honor of my birthday my insurance company sent me a post card informing me that I should schedule an appointment for The Camera Procedure. You know the one. Yeah, I'll do it. Personal health is important and I want live to see my kid grow old and die before I do.* There are some things you just don't delay or avoid no matter how intriguingly nightmarish. I'll do it, but I won't like it. You can bet I'm going to opt to stay awake during the procedure, though. If the Doc finds gold while he is digging I'm going to be alert enough to stake a claim.

* What?

John and Bully in 3-D!

It's Bully's pal John's birthday today! John is a great guy. We have never met in person and we know each other only via our blogs. John is, to paraphrase a professional blogger, a real internet friend. John had helped me when I was going through a very bad time by sending me literally thousands of dollars worth of books. By doing this John kept me entertained when my resources were severely curtailed and I was unable to access the art and stories I enjoy. I was incredibly depressed and stressed and John helped keep my spirits up by sending care packages. A whole bunch of bright spots in a pretty dark time. Those lights had to be cast by someone and that was John. He shines. His kindness helped in ways I can't ever repay. If John and Bully make it to the San Diego Con this year I want to shake his hand, Bully's hoof and buy them both lunch everyday.

So I can't think of a better treat than letting everyone wishing John and his pal Bully a happy birthday than for everyone to do so in person. On my budget the cost of flying the thousands of his fans around the country would be impossible but I can make it happen through the magicks of the internet!

So break out the red & blue glasses folks, because while most of you can't meet John in person I can bring the next best thing, JOHN & BULLY in 3-D!

So click on over to Bully's place and join the party!

Happy Birthday, John!
