Clark doesn't seem too repulsed as he watches this guy scrog the planet, but being an alien, Superman might think this is perfectly normal behavior for humans.

The story of corporate exploitation and taking advantage of the little guy was a very common theme in the 70's, slowly petering out by the 90's. You don't see those type of plots as much as you used to, but I swear they were in almost every book back then. The big company was evil, the brilliant but under-appreciated ex-employee would take revenge, only to have a hero stop him and expose the under-handed activity of the corporation/shadow agency/rogue cell. The Green Lantern 'relevancy' issues are good examples of that.
