Yeah, with this little anecdote I've become fed up with comic book creators who hate the medium and have nothing but contempt for their audience.
Get your Hangover Bucks TM from some other sucker from now on.

I'd have contempt for the sort of insane people who shoot pellet guns at my friends too.
ReplyDeleteIF it happened.
ReplyDeleteAnd this was for me the final straw in a long history of it.
And that's the man they chose to succeed Joss Whedon, of all people. The mind boggles.
ReplyDeleteThe sad part is that Warren Ellis is so damn talented. I know what you mean; latest in a long, long line. You want my money, stop telling me I'm an idiot.
ReplyDeleteI really like your graphic. Simple and direct says it best, sometimes.
ReplyDeleteYou might have missed that he was talking about Furries. Not comic book fans.
ReplyDeleteDidn't miss it. "Contempt for audience" whoever it may be. It's his general attitude.
ReplyDeleteI'm reminded of Millar's "Trade buyers have the cold eyes of the dead" line. Strangely, I didn't buy the Wanted trade, and excused myself from the Civil War nonsense when I found out he was writing it.
ReplyDeleteContempt, saving YOU money.
If he'd gotten rich over the years by telling stories about cheerful, forgiving, and wise characters, perhaps those are the traits that would have flourished in him personally. But he didn't and probably never could have. His loss and ours, but try not to resent it too much when he phones in another Harlan Ellison-esque blog entry to reinforce his self-image. I suspect his contempt for his audience is as shallow as his paycheck. If writers start getting work for being nice guys, he'll fall right in line.
